Supervisor: Town Foreman
This position, under the direction of andreporting to the Town Foreman, is required to perform semi-skilled maintenancework and assist with various municipal water and sewer infrastructure repairs. Work assignments are initiated by oralinstructions or written work orders and are checked during the course of andupon completion of the job by the Town Foreman.
The Utility Worker coordinates materialsand equipment required for work and establishes work priorities in consultationwith the Town Foreman.
DUTIES:
General
- Maintain and understand the importance of confidentiality.
- Respond to citizens concerns in a timely manner.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with all town citizens, town employees, temporary employees, the Mayor, Town Councillors, Fire Department, SEDCOR, and sub-committees, etc.
· Performs work in specialty areas such as framing, drywall installation and finishing, plumbing, painting, rough masonry, makes forms for concrete work, pours and finishes concrete.
· Ensures the completion of preventative maintenance and repairs to municipal buildings and infrastructure to include floorcovering, door, window and related hardware repairs.
· Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the
· Performs maintenance of walking trails including brush clearing.
· Performs the winterizing of town buildings including the Splash Pad, David Smallwood Municipal Park and Boxcar.
· Repairs and installs signage.
· Performs all aspects of lawn care including, but not limited to, seeding, mowing and trimming.
· Performs manual tasks including, but not limited to, shoveling, raking, hauling small loads of aggregate materials, traffic control and minor equipment maintenance.
· Garbage collection from municipal public spaces.
· Assists with festival preparations including festival tent.
· Operates a variety of hand and power tools, machines and light equipment.
· May be required to assist the public works department with repairs and/or maintenance to water and sewer services, street repairs and other related duties.
· Ensures that all work areas are kept orderly and uncluttered.
· Any other tasks assigned and in keeping with the scope of work undertaken by the Town and reflective of the abilities of the incumbent assigned by the Town Foreman or Town Clerk.
Planning and Budgeting
· Assist with the preparation of project cost estimates that include labour, material and equipment costs.
Equipment Operation
· Operate all construction related equipment and performed at all work sites where applicable.
· Ensure all equipment and tools are safely and securely stored.
· Advise the Town Foreman and/or the Town Clerk of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
QUALIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
· High school education or equivalent education and three years experience in maintenance work.
· Education, training or work experience in general maintenance.
· Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle is required.
· Letter of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check.
· 40 hours per week with a rate of pay as per the current CUPE Collective Agreement.

· Ability to ensure safe work practices through following the requirements of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
