Charge for Water Shut off or Turn On

Effective December 12th, 2011 the Town of Gambo will begin implementing the policy regarding the process of water service being turned off and on.  There will be a fee of $35.00 to turn water service off/on for emergency repairs. After regular working hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm a $100.00 call out fee will be charged.  There will be a fee of $35.00 to turn water service off and a $35.00 fee to turn water service on (seasonal)






Gambo to Celebrate Heritage Day

On Monday, February 20, 2012 a special school assembly will be held at Smallwood Academy to begin a celebration of Heritage Day (2012). Below is the draft program for that Assembly. Heritage Day Assembly (Draft) February 20, 2012, 9:15 am Welcome and Introductions by the School Principal Singing of O Canada (Student(s)) Remarks by the Chair (or designate) of the Heritage Committee Reading of the Heritage Day Proclamation by the Mayor (or designate) Singing of Good Ole Gambo by the School Choir Premiere of the video A SHORT History of Gambo by Aaron Lyda and Matthew Stead Presentations of the Arts for Heritage Recognition Awards Singing of the Ode to Newfoundland (Student(s)) Closing Remarks by School Principal Parents and the general public are invited and encouraged to attend what should be a very interesting and informative assembly. On Monday night the Heritage Committee and the Anglican Church Women will be hosting a Heritage Supper at St. George’s Hall. The supper will serve a 1962 menu and will commemorate 50 years of municipal government in Gambo. During the supper A Short History or Gambo will again be screened following which the Heritage Committee will present the first ever Mark Maker Awards. Two awards are being presented by the Heritage Committee to two individuals who have made a noteworthy contribution to the heritage and culture of our community. The menu is as follows. Appetizer: a choice of Pea Soup with Doughboys or Vegetable soup (with salt beef). Main Course: Corned Beef and Fish Cakes served with homemade mustard pickles and homemade bread. Dessert: Bread Pudding with Custard or Nestle’s Cream. Steeped tea or perked coffee. There are only 80 tickets available for purchase at $15 each. The tickets are expected to be snatched up quickly, so if you are interested in purchasing a ticket(s) to this unique event you should immediately contact June Blackwood at the Town Office (674-4476).





Board of Directors Position Available 

The Smallwood Era Development Corporation (Sedcor) in Gambo is seeking a member to chair its Board of Directors. Sedcor’s role is to help steer the town’s economic development. It is responsible for the over-all operation of the Smallwood Interpretation and Visitor Information Centre, Joey’s Lookout, the Village Green, Walsh House, Loggers Memorial Park, David Smallwood Park, the Smallwood Trail System, and the Mi’kmaq Cemetery. Through its Heritage Committee, Sedcor aims to preserve the area’s natural and cultural environment. Sedcor is run by a Board of Directors with a maximum of 15 members. The Board meets monthly. The Board is supported by paid employees, including an executive director. The Chair is responsible for the general management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the Corporation. The Chair of the Board of Directors presides at all meetings of the Board and all meetings of the Executive Committee which consists of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and one other member elected annually by and from the Board.
